TELUS “Arts of the Future Award” 2002 Nomination

Since the 1990s, PALENAI has been at the forefront of concert artists adding visuals to live performances. They have received honours and awards from Canada Council, Alberta Foundation for the Arts, Mu Phi Epsilon Foundation, Telus Corporation, and Parks Canada.

Rhythm ‘n Views© programs are live performances with simultaneous visual projections. The visualizations reflect the formal elements and expressive content of the music in a visual context. Photography, dance, Canadian art, and digital animations add a dynamic visual dimension in their “music to see” projects.

Programs that focus on the need to protect natural environments and the welfare of animals have been done in collaboration with the Sierra Club of Western Canada, the British Columbia Provincial Museum. the Fur-Bearers, and the National Society of Musicians Animals. The duo has performed Rhythm ‘n Views programs across Canada, in Florida, Indiana, on tour in England and Germany, and in collaboration with the Kingston Symphony.

In addition to your superb musicianship, the performance showcased an interdependence of two artistic disciplines with a technology application that was engaging and exciting. You expand the medium of artistic expression and broaden the horizon for other musicians.
